About the GMC Sierra 1500

The GMC brand was built on trucks, and the Sierra 1500 shows why that has been so successful. Highly capable, versatile, and comfortable, the Sierra 1500 has something for everyone. And thanks to a huge list of trims, available engines, and body configurations, getting a Sierra 1500 that’s built for just what you need it for is easy. It can be a rugged off-roader or a comfortable long-distance towing vehicle, or any number of configurations in between. There’s a ton of available tech to make whatever you need to do easier, from hitching up a trailer to hands-free highway cruising. And all of this is available with touches like leather upholstery, open-pore wood interior trim, and a 12-speaker Bose premium sound system.

What the Critics Say

“The GMC’s bed is big, with tie-downs galore, and the bed steps are useful. On top of that, it has an exclusive MultiPro tailgate, which opens in six different configurations. Top Sierra trims come standard with a brake controller, trailer camera angles that help you get hitched, and memory settings for various trailer configurations.” — Edmunds

“The GMC Sierra 1500 is a desirable full-size truck for drivers looking for a reliable workhorse, a luxurious highway cruiser, or just about anything in between.” — Kelley Blue Book

What’s New for 2025

The Sierra 1500 recently got a full redesign, so there haven’t been many changes for 2025. The one change of note is a new set of available 22-inch wheels.

GMC Sierra 1500 Features

GMC Sierra 1500 Off-Road

Serious Performance

Versatility is key to making a successful pickup truck, so GMC offers four different engines in the Sierra 1500. The standard engine is the 2.7-liter TurboMax™, which comes with more horsepower and torque than the base engine in either the Ford F-150 or the Ram 1500, the two primary competitors to the Sierra 1500. The Sierra 1500 is also one of the only pickups in this segment to still offer a diesel engine option, good news for those with serious towing needs. There are two gasoline V8 options as well, including a 6.2-liter option that turns up the performance with 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. When you need that performance off-road, the AT4 and AT4X come with all sorts of additional gear, like skid plates, recovery hooks, lifted suspension, and a 2-speed Autotrac transfer case.

GMC Sierra 1500 MultiPro Tailgate

Unrivaled Versatility

If the four engines weren’t enough to convince you that the Sierra 1500 is exceptionally versatile, consider the three available cabs, the three bed lengths, and the eight different trims. All three of the beds come with more space than the comparable offerings from competing pickups, and the MultiPro tailgate adds serious functionality that gives the Sierra 1500 a further edge. In addition to that, the Sierra 1500 has a 13,200-pound towing capacity, pair that with the advanced trailering tech and the available diesel engine, and it’s no surprise that the Sierra 1500 is such a popular towing vehicle. And when you want to add some extra visual flair, there are available chrome exterior accents and several sets of 22-inch wheels to choose from.

Sierra 1500 Interior

Luxurious Interior

GMC sets itself apart by offering interiors that are noticeably nicer than the other offerings in a given segment, and that includes the Chevrolet models that share platforms with GMC models. So the Sierra 1500 has an exceptionally comfortable and well-equipped interior. This is especially true of the Denali and Denali Ultimate trims, which include things like leather upholstery, heated back seats, a head-up display, and a Bose premium stereo system. Of course, you don’t need to opt for one of those trims to have a comfortable cabin full of useful tech. The 13.4 infotainment screen is standard on almost every trim, and includes Google built-in as well as wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
